LVRS Technology Committee

LVRS goes Hi-Tech:

The lakeside volunteer rescue squad has a 100 MBS wired, and 54 MBS encrypted wireless network infrastructure connecting multiple workstations and wireless laptops. We currently run a single Windows 2003 Domain with Exchange 2003 providing e-mail support for every member. Server hardware is a quad processor capable Compaq ProLiant 5500 with 72.8 Gig's of storage. Trend Micro provides the latest premier virus protection to all desktops, file servers, and print servers. All non-essential communications and informational postings in the building are distributed electronically thru e-mail. Squad members paging is transferred over the internet for those paging companies that support it.

High speed internet access is currently providing every workstation high speed access to the internet. Our digital copier is also networked as a printer, giving members the ability to print anything needed over the internet from a computer inside or outside the squad building. VPN (Virtual Private Networking) access is also given to all members who request secure access to the internal LVRS network file and print services--either for file storage or remote application usage. Classroom training, fundraising, and all other presentations are given using our Compaq M-1800 micro projector.
